Abstract

Background. The process of human cognition of the world has a complex and multifaceted structure. The cognitive activity of the person, mediated by language, is almost the main mechanism of cognition, comprehension and categorization of reality. Linguistic units are characterized by the presence of additional semantic shades associated with emotional state, assessment, allusions and associations, which influence on the recipient's understanding of the text. Non-derivative words are often semantically related to more universal concepts and national constants, while derivatives express the individual intention of author, lyrical hero's special assessment of the artistic reality of the text. These units therefore act as expressive markers of the individual style.

Topicality. The words, which denote the image of a cherry and the concepts associated with it, act as a unique language material that reflects the collective experience of humanity and ethnicity. In a poetic text, such units are expressions of the author's style. Purpose: to investigate the role of words with the root -vyshn- and their derivatives as linguistic representatives of the realities of the conceptual worldview of Oleksii Dovhiy's lyrical hero. Task: to consider the grammatical, word-forming, semantic, stylistic, individual-author's characteristics of using the language units denoting the image of a cherry, its signs and images associated with it.

Methods. General scientific methods (descriptive with analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, classification and systematization); special linguistic methods (word-formation analysis, componential and contextual analysis, lingual and poetic analysis).

Results. The study presents word-formation models for the creation of derived units, groups them by wordformation types, and establishes the number of word usages. The author of the article characterizes the role of nonderivative and derivative cognate words in specific poetic texts both in isolation and in certain linguistic contexts. The ability of the considered words to represent the image of an old cherry tree as an expression of the motif of the end of life, the lyrical hero's vision of the image of cherry blossom as a symbol of the historical memory of his native land, is particularly emphasized.

The author of the study notes that non-derivative words allow the poet to present the motif of the past glory and the historical memory of the people, to reflect the process of creativity, and convey to the reader his lyrical hero's impression from the beauty of a young girl. The derivatives units participate in the actualization of motifs of the beginning and end of life, in the representation of the outcome of life as the fruits of creativity and personal efforts or achievements, and in the author's creation of an intimate tone in the text. Both groups of words actively help the author poetically recreate a sacred locus for his lyrical hero – a place of strength, inspiration, and inner self-improvement.

Conclusions. The author of the article proved that most units with the root -vyshn- represent typical motifs and images of the Ukrainian cultural and ideological tradition. However, in some contexts, special authorial interpretations have been recorded. They interpret the image of the cherry as a symbol of the historical memory of the native land or a motif of the end of life.

The prospects of the research lie in studying the complex functional-figurative load of the plant names in the poet's linguistic worldview.
